Marietta continues to be a fabulous teacher! I highly recommend her for beginner Swahili. She is warm and fun, with a generous spirit. And, her approach is very systematic. Marietta's strong focus on grammar makes it easier to understand how the language is constructed. Applying those principles allows me to use the language more readily. I am so grateful and I look forward to every lesson.

I had the pleasure of learning Swahili with Ruth, and I couldn't be more impressed. She is a patient, knowledgeable, and engaging instructor who made learning Swahili both fun and effective. Ruth's ability to break down complex concepts and tailor the lesson to my learning style made a huge difference. She was also very encouraging, which gave me the confidence to practice speaking and improve my skills quickly.

He teach Swahili effectively and repeatedly. In particular, I prepared a speaking test with my teacher, and it's great that he conducted a class that fits the level with various examples and accurate pronunciation.

Marietta is a real gem and I would recommend her to both adults and children learning Swahili. She is patient, encouraging, and caters her lessons to your needs and interests. I am a writer, so we often create silly stories together to help me learn vocabulary and sentence structure.

I started off with one hour lesson and have switched to 25 min lessons. The content and experience is still the same. I am happy that the quality is the same. I don't feel that I have lost anything by shortening my lessons. The way Mrs. Maretta teaches is what I need. It is formal but informal at the same time. I understand the why, whcih helps me process the infomation.

I was nervous for our fast class but it was very calm and engaging. Everything was explained clearly and accurately and Mr. Bakari was very pleasant! The notes and PowerPoint were perfect for the first class and his English was excellent.

This review is based on a 25 minute trial class. Marie was prepared with supplemental materials for me based on the needs I had communicated to her before the session. She directly addressed the areas where I had been struggling. He knowledge of grammatical structure and most importantly, her ability to explain it clearly is very good.

I love her classes! Every day I learn new words, and I am improving a lot. She is not just one of the best Swahili teachers but one of the best teachers I have ever met. Many teachers taught me while I was studying in Asia and Oceania, but her determination and method of teaching are the best. I am so happy that I am one of her students!

Marietta is an excellent teacher. We had so much fun laughing together during my lessons. I needed to have some basics in Kiswahili as I was leaving for a medical missions trip to Africa. Marietta was able to verse me in some of the terms that were going to help me in the medical field, as well as day to day living language. A very gifted, professional and wonderful teacher!

Marietta really helped me as I struggled with changing sentences from active to passive and with using passive verbs that I had never known how to before. I appreciate her hard work to prepare for each lesson and highly recommend her to anyone looking to learn the basics but also the more challenging content of this beautiful language.

Q3. How do I choose my tutor?
If you have a clear idea of your criteria for choosing a tutor - such as any specific learning objectives, target cost for tutoring, etc. - you can use the search function to quickly find a tutor who suits your needs, and select “book trial” to set up your first online lesson.
If you don't have time to find a tutor or aren't sure where to start, we can help with recommendations. Try using our tutor recommendation tool here, which will provide you with tutor matches according to your selected needs.
Q4. What's the right learning environment for me? Should I choose a tutor who is a native speaker?
One of the best ways to learn is to immerse yourself in an environment where you try to use only .
However, if you do not currently have a solid base in spelling and/or vocabulary, we recommend you choose a bilingual tutor who speaks your target language and your native language, as you will likely have a better learning experience during your one-on-one private tutoring.
If you have a good range of vocabulary but lack the opportunity to practice, then we recommend you choose a native tutor.
Q5. Learn in the US - how do I find a local or online tutor?
You're in the right place. We have local tutors serving New York, Philadelphia, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Jose and most other areas nationwide, as well as numerous tutors based internationally.
Q6. How much will my online class cost?
All tutoring fees are set by the tutors themselves, and not by AT. Most of our tutors charge USD$10-30 per hour.
You can also get matched with suitable tutors who fit a specific budget. If the tutor’s fees work for you, you can buy a lesson package from them or start with a “trial lesson.”
Q7. How do I pay for my lessons?
You can pay with PayPal or credit card (American Express, Mastercard, or Visa). For certain international markets (e.g. Taiwan), we also accept local methods of payment, such as payment via ATM or convenience store.
Q8. How many lessons should I purchase?
If you have a short term goal, we recommend you purchase enough lessons that you can take classes consistently within your timeframe. If you need significant improvement to reach your goal, we recommend you an adequate number of lessons, and get into the habit of regular weekly learning! The more you put in, the more you get out of it!
