I'm Chris 😎 ✏️ NCTU graduated Linguist ✏️ A Linguist with a foreign language instruction background ✏️ My research field includes phonetic and experimental phonology ✏️ Three years + of teaching experience ✏️ Improve pronunciation and speaking for IELTS and TOEIC We will dig into English through the view of Linguistics to have a better understanding of the phonological rules behind English pronunciation 🧑🏻‍💻 🏳️‍🌈 Course introduction 🏳️‍🌈 ⚜️ Pronunciation course ⎮ This course includes a full package of pronunciation training. ⎮ The course includes English syllable structure, consonants and vowels, International Phonetic Alphabet, stress patterns, intonation, and English phonological rules. ⎮ There are lots of materials online, why would you even choose this course? ⎮ Besides articulatory training, what else can I offer? Let’s find out! ✅ Sound analysis （Visualize your sound through programming 🤔） Improve student's pronunciation not just through hearing, but also visualizing. This is an advantage for tracking and training articulation. ✅ English phonological rules（In my personal opinion, very valuable 🤣） Do you ever wonder why a letter sounds differently in two different vocabulary words? For example, /s/ sounds differently in the word ‘see’ and ‘’sure, why is that the case? This course is designed to have a better understanding of the result and motivation of sound change, to make better pronunciation like native speakers. ✅ Logic inference training（Yap! That’s right 🙀） Sound change happens with decent motivation. While teaching, this course also leads student’s observation, curiosity, and brainstorming. The ability to ask and find out ‘why’ matters nowadays, you should bear this in different fields. ⚜️ Speaking and listening course ⎮ Create the ‘perception-production link to further improve speaking and listening. ⎮ How do you learn English without an environment full of native speakers? ⎮ I personally love to learn English through TV shows, those are great environments. ⎮ The course will be using a TV show as teaching material. ⎮ Let’s learn English through the TV show. ✅ Perception practice through the TV show Based on student’s favorite TV shows, we practice perception through native speakers. We can point out the pronunciation, possible sound change, phonological rules behind it. The purpose is to help students get used to the pronunciation and speed of native speakers. ✅ Production practice through the TV show We will practice production by imitating characters inside the TV show. The purpose of imitation is to train pronunciation and build up student’s language corpus. By fully understanding the syntactic structure, students can use it correctly and freely. ⚜️ Introduction to Linguistics course ⎮ Linguistics is a science that studies language. ⎮ Having Linguistic knowledge helps you grasp a new language faster. ⎮ If you are interested, you are welcomed to contact me. ⎮ Intro to Linguistics is divided into four different areas. ✅ Syntax This knowledge helps you understand how a sentence is formed and how it is structured. ✅ Semantic Understanding different meanings behind a sentence. ✅ Phonetics Grasp the idea of how sounds are formed, understanding different sounds in a language. ✅ Phonology How did a sound change happen? The course will be customized based on student’s requirements, levels, and goals.
